From the Pastor's Desk 5/9/23

A shout out to Josh, Amber and the Denson’s … great big Thank You! For changing out the bad ceiling tiles in the sanctuary. Josh was able to borrow the scaffolding, and they all pitched in to get this ugly job done. The ceiling looks fantastic. Pray for Mike and Brandy, so sorry to hear of the loss of their trailer due to fire. Fortunately no one was hurt and they do have insurance, but sometimes, things are hard to replace. I also want to say I really enjoyed Miss Sandy’s special on Sunday (slightly biased opinion). It’s wonderful to sing and hear others sing from the heart to the Lord. Remember to reach out to someone this week. Pray for God to put people in your path that you can invite to church, share a Gospel tract, pray with, share the Gospel etc. Everyday we pass people that need the Lord. God bless you and have a great week!

A Bible thought

John 15:19 “Because ye are not of the world …. therefore the world hateth you.” This verse reminds me of this last Sunday’s sermon. Of course, John the beloved is the writer of John and 1 John. Spurgeon said this concerning this verse, “None of you can be the people of God without provoking envy; the better you, the more you will be hated.” Once we become a Christian we are immediately different from, and at odds with the world. Why does the world hate Christians? Why do those we once called friends, after salvation, look upon us as enemies? First I would say the world is envious of righteousness. We as Christians are not perfect, but, as a Christian we invoke a certain holy, clean , do-good, do the right thing kind of living that the lost person envies. The lost man desires this but, cannot attain to it no matter how hard he tries. This righteousness only comes from God. The lost man feels immediately guilty. That same righteousness, which is the righteousness of Christ through us, brings guilt to the lost man. The lost man is also jealous of his lifestyle, knowing that to come to Christ (which in his heart he knows he must) he must forsake his lifestyle. For sake his life, forsake everything his flesh loves. Do not be surprised when the world hates you. Stay by your testimony, and pray for the lost that they will come to Christ and gain that which the have hated.

Have a great week!
